I always try to pack light when traveling. I’m proud of the fact that I have never checked a bag. Even on a 2.5 week trip to Europe in the winter, carry-on only, baby! The toughest things to keep under control are shoes & toiletries. You can never have too many. I take advantage of the toiletries in the hotels so I can keep things minimal, but with my tangly, long hair I need major conditioning, or I’ll be a hot mess.
Ouai Deep Conditioner
I am obsessed with Jen Akin’s (hair stylist to the Kardashians) Ouai brand of haircare. The packaging is Instagram-worthy, and her deep conditioner is literally life-saving. I love how it comes in travel-friendly packaging. One box of Ouai’s Treatment Masque comes with 8 packets. It seems pricey, but I use one packet for 2-3 washes (and that’s with very long & thick hair). So, one box will last longer than you think. For a weekend trip, I take one packet and for a week long trip, I take two. It’s so thin & compact, it barely takes up any room. This conditioner detangles my hair better than anything I’ve ever tried, and it makes my hair feel so soft. The best part is, it smells amazing. It’s a light floral smell that reminds me of fresh cut magnolias. Since conditioner might be the last thing you put in your hair, the scent lasts. So the smell is pretty important to me. With this amazing conditioner, I’m fine using any hotel brand shampoo first.
Ouai Hair Oil
My hair can get pretty dry & frizzy so I like to use a leave-in conditioner. I always travel with the masque packets and Ouai’s Hair Oil. The oil really kept my hair at bay in humid destinations like Bali. It smells just as amazing as the masque. When I travel, I rarely style my hair. I use it on my hair right when I get out of the shower, and it makes my hair shiny & soft as it air dries. I love the easy pump bottle (I hate tubes), and it’s travel friendly at 1.7 oz. A little goes a long way. I use half a pump for my whole hair. Ouai just came out with a rose oil. I love the original so I’m really excited to try this one.

If you prefer to travel with a full hair care set, Ouai has a great travel kit that comes with a repairing shampoo & conditioner, treatment masque and some hair ties for only $25. I would bring either the repair conditioner or the treatment masque with you and leave the other one at home. I always use more conditioner than shampoo so this set is perfect for me.
